What’s the best way to coordinate and manage ideas for SharePoint site creation?
Chris Quick has mentioned MindManager to me several times as a possible tool for managing thoughts and coordinating ideas for SharePoint site creation. I subscribe to the Assistive Technology blog and today they had a post pointing to a video describing the use of MindManager. Worth a quick look…
What are you using to document your SharePoint ideas and meetings? I’ve been using SharePoint itself with the blog, wiki and tracking functionalities, but I am really interested in other alternatives. What are you using?

Hi Mark:
Thanks for linking back to the post on MindManager. I appreciate it. I am a native New Yorker living in New Jersey. Keep in touch
Brian
Brian – My pleasure. I find your research interesting, as well as informative, which is a double whammy. As a corporate trainer, I’m always looking for better ways to present information and you’ve just about convinced me to take a serious look at MindManager.
Didn’t I see a screencast of you presenting this for a Microsoft seminar somewhere?
Mark,
Thanks for bringing this forward. I wasn’t aware of these videos. I’m very much looking forward to reviewing them when I can get back in range of a consistent wireless provider! :)
As for MindJet, this tool was brought to me by our academic community. One of the features that I recently discovered was the ability to actually perform a live brainstorming session where MindJet will take care of the timing as you continue to perform data entry of the various ideas. You can then sort those ideas into groups by drag-and-drop operations.
I also like the fact that I can rearrange the topics and get several views of the data with a few key-strokes. This really helps when you’re not entirely sure where a topic should reside. For SharePoint, this gives you a tool to quickly move items around with end-users to plan out where things will be located and how they will get to them!
Again, thanks for the resource!
I shuddered during the “meeting Effectiveness” screencast: the part where the map is zipped and and related objects are emailed to recipients. This distribution form defies centrality and promotes untracked proliferation of versions.
Tell me about some server-based mapping tool… (maps for SharePoint?)
Dan – I’d have to agree with you on that. One of the reasons we’re all working with SharePoint is the ability to have a central location acting as a single distribution point. If “meeting Effectiveness” means emailing 20 copies of a zip file to participants, it defeats the entire purpose.
Mark
Hi Mark:
MindManager can work with SharePoint which should eliminate the problem of multiple distribution points for the project maps. I know that Mindjet has a white paper on their web site which discusses using MindManager 7 Pro on a SharePoint network.

Brian – I’m struggling with the mechanics of using a Document Library to modify file objects using the mindjet desktop client app – (i.e. “Did I check it out first?”, “Am i the only one editing it?”, “should I use an Alert or and RSS feed to be notified if the map changes?”, etc.)
Get me to some way to create/review these maps directly from the browser…
Dan:
I am not a SharePoint expert but here is a link to a document from Mindjet that talks about integration of MM7 and Sharepoint.

Hope this helps
