EndUserSharePoint.com: Feedback on “Case Studies in SharePoint Dashboards”
Update after presentation: Due to problems with the audio for many people who attended, I will be making the recording of the event available to all people on the newsletter. I am working on it tonight and am shooting to have it available by the end of the week.
It sounds like login instructions ended up in the spam bin, in a lot of instances. Next time, we’ll have login instructions directly on the screen after registration.
I’m considering doing a repeat of the entire presentation this Thursday at 1:00PM EST, for the people who couldn’t get logged in and those who had audio problems. Anyone interested in a second take? Leave a comment, please.
Original Post
Over 540 people registered for the Case Studies in SharePoint Dashboards online presentation. I have asked them to add comments and feedback to this post. This will help when planning future presentations.
Thank you to everyone for making this a very successful event. I am truly astounded at the response. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Mark,
I registered and this was confirmed but I unfortunately received no email with log in instructions :-(
Will this presentation be made available?
The webinar was blocked at my company.
Is there anyway to view it again?

We have notified the product vendor of the issue and they agree with our assessment of the issue but have yet to come up with a solution.
There are other products in the marketplace (Webex, Placeware, LiveMeeting, Acrobat Connect) which do not have the same issue if the presenter is willing to use them instead.

Subject: Need access to a site
I need access a Net Meeting for this SharePoint training webinar. https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/680734017
Please advise.
Thanks,
I signed up for this, but the link that was emailed to me was bad so I could not log into it. Will this be posted on the enduser sharepoint.com website so I can access it later. Thank you
Mark,
Unfortuneately, I checked in late but tried to follow along. I couldn’t get the sound to function.
Do you have a recoding of the conference?
I didn’t get much out from this seminar. For example, I would like to see more details in webpart. I guess what you pays is what you get.
An outstanding presentation!!! Brilliant leverage!
Instead of another tour of the kitchen, we get to see somebody cook !!!
You mentioned a ‘Monroe’ ? In the context of the CEWP. What site were you talking about?
Great presentation. Presenter spoke clearly and the examples were very useful. I definately want to see the code behind some of your examples and look forward to the workshop.
I missed the “Case Studies in SharePoint Dashboards” and it was something I REALLY wanted to see. Will you provides a screencast of the event?
I connected to the webinar but go no sound. Is there any chance of getting it to download so I can watch and hear what actually happenned?
Great stuff. Can’t wait for the 9/30 hands-on. How you and Christophe got the KPI-like features into WSS is amazing. Definitely something we want to implement. Always looking for good ways to notch up WSS capabilities, particuarly free ones that we ourselves can implement.
Very good content and clear presentation. I learned a great deal and will undoubtedly use some if not all of the tips. I look forward to your September 30 workshop.
Well organized and your passion comes through as well. It was good at showing possibilities with excellent examples of dashboards. With all the frustrations that SharePoint can bring to users, it is so refreshing to share your energy and excitement about what is possible.
My only suggestion is that for those who have MOSS, it would have been good to know what was relevant and what was not. For example, what custom coding shown in your demo is NOT needed if one has MOSS?
Thank you for making this available. I found some valuable nuggets of information in your presentation. I look forward to future webcasts.
This was very helpful for me to see what I can do with dashboards. I liked the web parts in the lists and libraries. I will be utilizing this tool along with connecting between web parts.
Great job Mark, thank you very much! I liked a lot your focus on what is available out-of-the-box in SharePoint and how do you leverage it in very creative ways. Please go on!
I’m sure you’ve already gotten plenty of feedback about the audio glitches, but hanging in there till your email with the phone number was worth the wait!
I provide functional support for SharePoint at my company (the system admins are a separate group). We’re currently only using SharePoint internally to collaborate on Info System projects. Our project managers and business clients (all within the company) are eager for SharePoint dashboarding in our MOSS 2007 environment. This Case Studies in SP Dashboards presentation gave me a good jumping off point to help direct my users. You provided tips and how-tos that I can apply NOW. Too many other 3rd party resources I’ve tried have been consulting firms who give you a teaser so you’ll engage their services. Can’t really blame them but many of the things you demonstrated are simple enough to provide big returns with little time/cost investment. I’m very eager to view the recording to catch up with what I missed in the beginning of the session. I’m also eager to see the MindJet (?) presentation. Thanx for an hour well-spent!
Hello Mark, I enjoyed what I was able to hear during the presentation. I would love to see the entire presentation – I thank you for putting this together and your site is very helpful in my quest to be the best in SP Wss 3.0…
Well done Mark, I have purchased alot of books on SharePoint, the sad part is that they are all the same, very few actually get what a technical person like myself wants to see. Actual solutions and not “hello world” and the same info about the web parts that I can find online at Microsoft.
I was on the presentation on/off seemed very nice. I was wondering if you will open up the site. or show presentation docs or recording the presentation.
I missed the pie chart dashboards
Great job! Thank you all for sharing your knowledge.
Mark-
Very good presentation. Nice pace, and you brought the subject down to a reasonable level.
Where can I get the Javascript code to display the div styles from a WSS calculated column?
Great job Mark! Fortunately, I scrolled the Q/A section as I first logged on and found the phone number/code before you actually started. I was especially pleased with your “quick look” at everything on the homepage dashboard. I’ve recently been asked to add more “interesting” stuff on the home page and you gave me lots of good ideas. Looking forward to more of these!
Mark –
Very useful for those that do not have Designer or MOSS. I have already written dashboards in MOSS but still got nuggets out of this presentation – especially the JS for converting Calc columns, never thought of that.
I think it was very relevant to remind people that lists are simply web part pages and can be customized in and of themselves.
Clever uses of the CEWP, manual though it is, it is a powerful web part. Finally, I had forgotten about the tool pane in datasheet view and its usage, so forgot how easy it was to create pivot tables.
Thanks for the presentation. Look forward to more.
Very nice presentation! I liked the innovative solutions for displaying KPI type data in a WSS environment. I look forward to link to the information shown (including the javascript file needed to display the calculated field). Thanks.
Greetings… Only a Hurricane would have stopped me from attending this workshop, this topic is close to my heart, but Ike came along and wiped out my electricity and now I am at a friends house. Is it possible to do this again or view a recorded session via End User SharePoint?
To answer the questions about using HTML in calculated columns: the series is called “the HTML calculated column” and can be found here:
http://pathtosharepoint.wordpress.com/category/the-html-calculated-column/
The first article provides the explanations and the script, then other posts show various use cases that rely on this method.
Christophe
Absolutely would love for you to do another one on Thursday!
YEAH! I just sent an email a couple of hours ago about this very post.
Thanks Mark!
Kris
Thank you to everyone for the feedback. I will be providing a recording of the presentation to everyone that registered, whether they were able to attend or not.
More details are available in the Post Mortem post.
Great session. I really liked the creative ideas you presented. The one thing I would have liked to have seen a little more on was the details on how you used the hidden webparts and created the javascript for some of the graphical tips and tricks.
Shawn – I’ve had many requests over the past 24 hours for details on how the hidden javascripts function. During the September 30 session, I’ll be going into details about where to put them and why.
Between me, Christophe and Paul Grenier, I think we’ll have some surprises to add to those solutions on the 30th. Stay tuned…
For those looking, the September 30 session has been moved to October 21 at 1:00pm EST. You can find more info here:
