EndUserSharePoint.com ScreenCast – Limit the item count in a web part display
Sometimes it’s the little things that get people excited.
I was giving an online workshop last night when the response screen started to go crazy. I couldn’t figure out what was the big deal until people responded that they never knew you could limit the number of items displayed in a web part.
Like I said, it’s the little things sometimes that will get you the best buy-in. Here’s a quick, two minute screencast to show you how simple and effective this technique can be when building your entrance page dashboards.
Please embed the screencast on your site if you think it will be of interest to your End Users.
QQ not related specifically to this post…
Can you please share any information on the software that you use to capture your screencasts and the player/service you use to publish the screencasts within your site? They look excellent and are very intuitive to follow…
Thx.
Jeff – The recordings are made with Camtasia Studio 5.0 by TechSmith, the same people who make SnagIt. The screencasts are delivered through BrightCove. — Mark
Mark,
I am not able to see any of the videos that are embedded in a blog post. The loading player just cycles thru. I was able to see videos in the past. It may be that my company is blocking. Can you post the video in an alternate location? Thanks!
Dave
Dave – Let me see what I can do about that. The files are .flv that are loaded into BrightCove, so I really don’t have any ‘wrappers’ around the content that I could zip up.
Keep an eye on next week’s newsletter to see if I’ve found a solution.
Mark
Mark,
Not sure what you did but the videos are working now! Thanks!!
Kudos to you and your teammates for putting together a terrific website. Hardly a day goes by that I don’t find something that I can put to use or pass on to my user community.
Dave
Dave – Good to hear it. I’ve got another one coming out at noon today.
Regards,
Mark
Seems http://link.brightcove.com/
Is blocked by the government …Reason:
The Websense category “Adult Material” is filtered.
Robin – I had to laugh at that one. Yeh, I guess is might be considered “Adult Material”, but my five year old doesn’t seem to mind helping when I need it.
FYI, I am moving from BrightCove. They have changed their business model and no longer will support what I’m trying to do. The change will be transparent to the End User, but I’m hoping it will open up more viewing capabilities.
Do you have access to YouTube or Graspr?
Hi Mark,
I wanted to show somebody the video under http://www.endusersharepoint.com/?p=912 but it is no longer there. Any chance of it getting it put back up?
Regards,
Mick
Mick – Those are down for the count. When BrightCove closed shop on small vendors, all of those links went dead.
Simple solutions to the problem though… when configuring the view on the web part, one of the settings at the bottom is to set the number of items to view.
Hope that helps.
