Two Days Left to Get Your Free ‘SharePoint for Project Management’ Book

Dux Raymond Sy, Author of SharePoint for Project ManagementI met with Dux this morning to pickup the ‘SharePoint for Project Management‘ books that we will be giving away to the people with the most interesting problems and ideas on how to use SharePoint for project management.

If you haven’t placed your entry, consider doing it now. Deadline for entries is Friday night at mid-night, New York City (EST) time. Voting will begin next week and the problems with the highest number of votes receive an autographed copy of Dux’s book. And sure… I’m willing to pop for international postage.

The last time I looked, there were 34 entries and climbing.

Why are we doing this?

I’m trying to find the most common scenarios we can feature on the site. If we can analyze what people are asking for and then come up with generic solutions to those scenarios, everyone wins.

Let’s see what you’ve got… describe a problem you have with project management and let’s see if we can find a solution with Out-of-the-Box SharePoint.

We use SharePoint as our staff portal and would like to use the SharePoint Project Management solutions that are part of the system – sadly there is no ability for nested tasks…making real project management a bit of problem…

    Any feedback would be great.

We’ve traditionally been a linux workshop and are now growing to be a larger organization. We just moved our mail over to Exchange a few months ago and just setup SharePoint and a new Domain Controller this last week. I have a home-grown project management system we’ve been using for years, but I’m trying to find something that we can integrate into SharePoint, Exchange, etc.

So far what I’ve come up with as a first step, is a powershell script to automatically email me the number of emails that exists inside of each user’s Inbox. I’m thinking about maybe making a script online to keep me up-to-date on emails, tasks, calendar items, etc. We’re also looking at several tools that claim to work with SharePoint for PM, but everything’s pretty expensive and we haven’t quite found exactly what we want yet.

Can I please get this book?

  4. Paula – The free books were for a contest and the entries ended last week. You can always purchase one on Amazon.
