Keep going, keep your head down… I’ll walk point and do the grunt work.

I subscribe to over 75 blogs, trying to cull the wheat from the chaff, looking for SharePoint End User tidbits. I usually have to wade through 50 to 100 post before finding something an End User with no programming skills or server access can use.

I’ve decided to start a series, pointing to the interesting End User posts I find each day. That way, you get to keep working on your projects while I’m searching for useful ideas that will keep you excited about SharePoint.

My recommendations will be focused on End User material, only. Mike Gannotti is doing this kind of thing with a much broader scope, so if you’re a little more advanced, you should subscribe to his site, too.

I will post the links at the end each day as I find them and then include them in the Weekly Newsletter, kind of as a ‘Summary of the Week’ section. Here’s the first set of links from yesterday’s findings:

Today’s Readings

Content Types, Hidden Columns and Frustration
Gavin Morgan at Share, That’s the Point
Interesting observations on using Content Types. If you were to run into this problem on your own, you’d spend hours banging your head wondering what you were doing wrong. Thankfully, Gavin has banged his head for you. He has a very natural writing style and makes the solution look easy.

Creating a New SharePoint Calendar
John Anderson at Bamboo Solutions
John’s just getting his feet wet at Bamboo and has no ego when it comes to describing the most basic aspects of SharePoint. Never created a calendar before? Check this one out.

Add a New Item to a SharePoint Calendar
John Anderson at Bamboo Solutions
This is a followup to John’s article on creating a calendar. If you’ve created a calendar, you might as well put some events in it.

Introducing the Upload Wizard
Jeff Webb at Bamboo Solutions
Jeff has written a nice little app you can download and run locally. It helps when you are bulk uploading files into a SharePoint library. I started a discussion with Jeff on how I would like to see the app enhanced.

Whoops… didn’t mean to pimp for Bamboo Solutions, but they did have some good articles for out of the box solutions last week. — Mark

    Mark,

I mentioned this before in one of my comments to an article. This stuff is awesome! Huge value added.

  2. Hiya, Mark -

Many thanks for your kind words and encouragement! (And yep, SharePoint Blank only works if I check my ego, such as it is, at the door ;)

    Cheers,

    Wonderful help as always!

Here is a useful tip for end users to get more out of their MOSS My Site. An IE favourite to add any site as a link in their “My Sites” list.

  5. Ian – Good to hear from you again. I am using your site as a major reference point in the Dashboards workshop.

For those who haven’t seen Ian’s site, run over and check it out. 5 stars for content.
