Feedback on “Create a Master Calendar in SharePoint” online workshop

The December 30th “Create a Master Calendar in SharePoint” online workshop is completed. The participants will be giving feedback here so you can get an idea of how things went. In addition to the workshop itself, they received all of the resources needed to create the solution (hierarchical Mind Map, Step-by-Step Guide for implementing a Master Calendar, two custom web parts and a LyteBox setup) and a recording of the entire workshop.

Let’s see what they have to say…

    Great job!

Excellent workshop! My first workshop and it was well worth it. I was hesitant to participate due to my lack of Developer or coding skill but everything was clear, easy to understand and follow; due to the insturctor I’m sure – Thank you Mark.
Looking forward to the Content Type workshops mentioned.
Question – We don’t have Event as a List Content Type in our Site Content Type Gallery; do I need to talk with our System Administrator?

  3. Wanda says:

    Excellent session, Mark. Thank you.
Suggestion: The last 20 minutes were the most complex (and important) and went too fast. You could either speed up the first half, or add another 15 minutes on the end to ensure everyone has time to edit the scripts and ask questions.

Question: My Sales and Marketing teams would like color coding on their calendars similar to Outlook. Is there a way to implement this in SharePoint using the Content types (or even categories) that is consistent for the list across all views (including Gantt)?

I have been to other SharePoint workshops and this one by the far the best. It’s really a step-by-step tutorial to one of SharePoint’s hot topics. The instructor did a great job explaining the process from start to finish.

My rating for this workshop: A+

  5. Linda – The Event content type is hidden by default. You’ll have to have the site collection admin expose it.

Follow the direction in this article to expose the Event content type:

  6. Wanda – Check out Christophe’s solutions in his Paths to SharePoint site. He’s got some interesting workarounds.

  7. Yassar – Thanks for the A+. I thought it went well. I’ll be interested in following how your implementation goes. — Mark

Great presentation. I had a few technical difficulties, i.e., couldn’t find my user name and password…had received two emails neither of which had username/password. Finally it occurred to me to check my junk mail…there it was (15 -20 mins into the session so I was way behind. Also, I lost audio off and on throughout the session…mostly due to things on my end, I suppose (nobody else seemed to have this problem). Fortunately, you recorded the whole presentation and that makes it all the better for those of us who were fumbling around trying to catch up, hear, or whatever. thanks!

Being based in Melbourne Australia, I lost a couple of hours of sleep on this workshop, but it was worth the while!
A good set up of the sandbox – good interaction with the host and all resources supplied combined with some humor made this the best workshop I attended. (HS!)
Am looking forward to the new form of subscription so I will be able to watch the presentation afterwards and get some sleep at the same time.
    Once again thanks Mark…!!

  10. Dave says:

I have attended many other sharepoint workshops/webinars and by far this was the best. I think what sealed the deal for me was the hands on interaction and being able to walk step by step thru the process on my own site. I’m anxious to implement this calendar and share it with my department, Thanks Again for a Great Presentation!

  11. Mick Brown says:

Hey Mark, wasn’t able to contribute much last night as my keyboard gave up half way through. I was able to follow the session just fine though. I’ll catch up using the video. Audio was fine my end and I had no difficulties following the broadcast. Great content, as ever!

Can you email me my sandbox site login please.

    Thanks, Mick

  12. Beth Beck says:

    Hi Mark,
Bummer. I missed this again! I knew you were going to try to offer it before the new year and didn’t see any notice about it until now. Any plans to offer it again?

    Happy New Year!

    Thanks,
    Beth

  13. Beth – February 21st is the next one.

However, I’m just about finished setting up the Premium Subscription archives where you will be able to view the presentation on-demand or download a copy to your harddrive for private viewing. I’m planning for the end of January for rollout.

Keep an eye on the Weekly Newsletter for updates. Newsletter subscribers will have the first shot at signing up.

    Mark

  14. Beth Beck says:

Sounds good. I’ll keep a better eye on the weekly newsletter. I’m sure I overlooked the one last week with the all the holiday commotion going on.

    Thanks Mark.

  15. Ted Fowler says:

Our Superintendent wanted a calendar that would enable employees to post certain events on their subsite calendars which would appear on the home page calendar. I didn’t have much luck finding a calendar webpart that could fill our need until a colleague sent me a link to Creating a Master Calendar at EndUserSharePoint.com.

Mark Miller has a fantastic program. We implemented his solution, and are very happy with our new master calendar.
