The first session of “Congratulations! You’re a site manager… now what?” is completed. This workshop implemented a set of drag-and-drop site planning templates for SharePoint. I’m looking forward to the participant feedback since this was the first session.

Let’s hear it gang. How did it go?

Here’s the instant replay for those who missed it the first time around:

Mark has really taken a lot of the pain out of planning and documenting a SharePoint site.

He has created “pre-fab” components and (here’s the really great part) populated them with all the options that you need (e.g. Version Tracking: Yes/No; Number of Major/Minor versions; etc.).

MindManager is a great tool for visualizing your implementation. These components make creating the map super-quick and easy.

I indend to use these components heavily.

Documentation at the speed of configuration is a powerful tool.

Where can we download the Mind Manager template files please?

I have used this before but with basic website templates – nothing this robust and SharePoint specific.

This was my first workshop with Mark and I thought it was great. He kept the participants engaged even with us all being remote. There has obviously been a lot of work done on these templates and I see them being extremely useful in quickly brainstorming and documenting a new SharePoint site. I’ve been using MindManager for about 2 years and think its a great tool. These templates and the how to use them workshop makes it an even better tool.

I look forward to participating in other workshops with Mark.

Another really, really good workshop, which is why I keep coming back for more. Big bank for the buck, much value added, very useful – immediately useful – content. (And an HS for the time and effort that went into creating those MindManager templates.)

I just got a chance to download the template and I love it- can it also allow for Content Type creation? The field for “document template” (or “item template” for lists)could be used for that but it’s not really the same thing? It’s not clear if that field is suppsoed to merely indicate that “Yes- there is a template,” or is it for “Here is how we will create our template and by the way, content types…” ??

    Thanks!!

[...] Here are a couple of screencasts from previous sessions to give you an idea on how the templates might be used. Also, you can view feedback from a previous session. [...]
