This Week in SharePoint with Joel – Week 01

Welcome to the first recording of “This Week in SharePoint with Joel”.

The conversationalists on the recording are Mark Miller, Founder and Editor of EndUserSharePoint.com and Joel Oleson of SharePoint Joel. It is our intention to start each week with a 15 to 20 minute conversation on the current state of SharePoint and point out some subjects that might be of interest during the coming week.

Embed this recording on your site.

Download the recording for later playback: This Week in SharePoint with Joel – Part 1

Update: I have created a new format for the screencast that includes a Table of Contents. It is also in an older, .flv format, that will allow a much wider audience to view. It wil also open in a new window to accommodate the width of the TOC. I would appreciate your feedback if you listen to both versions.

Here are some minute markers so that you can move around in the conversation to points of interest.

  • Minute Marker: 01:00 – The purpose of the recording
  • Minute Marker: 03:40 – SharePoint Saturdays
  • Minute Marker: 06:15 – SharePoint Babes
  • Minute Marker: 07:24 – System information on the 2010 release
  • Minute Marker: 13:40 – Upcoming conferences

As things progress, we will add different formats to the download types, including iTunes and Zune. For right now, you can listen to the recording in the Flash version embedded here or download the orginal .mp4 file.

As we state at the end of the recording, your feedback is greatly appreciated. Did you find this type of open conversation useful? Are there subjects you would like covered in the upcoming sessions? Have a listen and tell us what you think. We’ll refine this thing as we go.

Thanks for coming along.
Joel and Mark

Great idea. A weekly digest on the technology will be great for people who do not get the time to catchup with everything. Will look forward for the next one.

  2. Looking forward to a recap of the week’s events – it means SharePoint tweeps can take a vacation every once in awhile. Any particular reason why you didn’t mention the SP2 expiration date from the SharePoint Product Group blog?

  3. SPS Toronto says:

Thank you very much for the shout out to SharePoint Saturday Toronto!

The Call for Speakers is still open and we are looking for Sponsors!

This is a great value add. The length of discussion is right on. Even the busiest folks have time to listen. Topics on target…hitting the high critical items that we all need to know (or at least be aware of). Look forward to more in the coming weeks. Thanks, Mark and Joel.

  5. Joel,

You mentioned that the upgrade from 2K3 to 2010 would require intermediate upgrade to 2K7.

How does this affect licencing? Do customers need to buy a licence for 2K7 just to upgrade their 2K3 to 2010?

  6. Nice brief podcast. I like the markers, more podcasts should have them. Knew about most of the content already but nice to be reminded. I’ll sign up via iTunes when it is available.

  7. Kevin Hughes says:

Wonderful first broadcast. I love the format as a summary of the week. Might be a good addition if there were links added in the article portion of the post to get more detail about the topics mentioned.

    Keep it up!

  8. Joan says:

Loved it. I can no longer keep up with the amount of SharePoint info; it’s become overwhelming. And Joel is certainly a one to get the info from. As for topics, definitely 2010 as key news comes out about it.

  9. ricknology says:

Nicely done. Short and to the point. I like the conversation style.

  10. Ken Lin says:

This is great! I look forward to future episodes.

One thing I’d like to comment is that the audio volume seems a bit low, especially Joel’s voice. If you could pump it up a bit, it would make the listening experience even better. Thank you.

  11. Tom Resing says:

Joel and Mark Miller may live on to be THE name in SharePoint Podcasts! I love the combination. You two complement each other very well and I felt like I was sitting right next to you at dinner again like after SharePoint Saturday Boston.
I listened on my iPod, but I did have to jump through a couple hoops. I downloaded the .mp4, added it to iTunes, looked around for awhile before I realized it was in the Movie category not in music. Then I had to convert it to iPhone format before I could drag it over. After that, the sound on the iPhone was great and I love the content and format.
Get the mp3 on a Podcast feed and I won’t miss a week!
