Real World SharePoint: Case Studies from the Trenches
Session Abstract: Wrapping your head around SharePoint is hard enough. But once you have the foundation, once you have the concepts down, what can really be done with out of the box components? What can be done when you don’t have access to the server?
In this session, we’ll examine solutions that have been developed by people who have been following the articles on EndUserSharePoint.com or have taken one of the workshops, and have extended the ideas in the context of a Real World SharePoint solution. All examples use techniques and resources available to any SharePoint Site Manager.
How about a SharePoint Multi-Media Center that not only manages videos and screencasts within SharePoint, but also exposes external videos while appearing to remain within the SharePoint interface? How about organizing the voting records of various politicians through use of inline charts and graphs without recourse to Excel services? How about dynamically displaying a slide deck of images in a slick interface without use of Silverlight or Flash?
The purpose of Real World SharePoint is to open discussion on what can be done when you start thinking out of the box. By exposing Real World solutions built by typical business users, we’ll present an exciting array of projects that will have you talking in the hallways afterward.
Session Level: 100
Session Audience: Business Manager , Project Manager, Site Admin and Site Collection Admin
Best Practices for Building a Community in SharePoint
Abstract: What does it take to build a globally recognized, online community from the privacy of your cube?
In this session, Mark Miller discusses the techniques and resources he used for making EndUserSharePoint.com one of the largest SharePoint Community sites in the world in less than two years. He’ll share why he built the site, how the community developed, how he attracted world class authors, and what you can do to develop your own community of internal SharePoint users.
Many people can tell you how to use SharePoint, but do you have a game plan for building a community on your site? Building an online community is not magic, but there are specific practices to following when setting up the content and context of the site.
In this session, we’ll deep dive into the various components of an online community, showing you how you can generate interest not only on an external facing site, but on your internal SharePoint site.
At the conclusion of this session, you’ll walk away with ideas for generating an audience you didn’t even know existed. With a few well executed ideas, you too can have a site that makes you a SharePoint Superstar in your organization.
