In Windows Explorer (start menu and search for windows explorer) view the drives on your computer and under network location, right click in free space, and select Add Network Location. This will open the Network Location wizard. Copy and paste the URL of your site collection (but you must delete everything from pages on: /pages/default.aspx). Click next and enter in the name of the SharePoint site that is recognizable for you. Click next/finish and now you will be able to drag/drop and cut / paste documents to and from document libraries.
EndUserSharePoint on "Copying Files from One Document Library to Another" http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/topic/copying-files-from-one-document-library-to-another#post-4151 Wed, 11 Feb 2009 22:26:48 +0000 EndUserSharePoint 4151@http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/
I agree with Paul. The form will load without the requested data." when opening a Word Document after this document was copied from one library to the other by using the "Site content and Structure". Problem didn't occur when I copied the document through the "Explorer view".

Regards,
Erwin
AutoSponge on "Copying Files from One Document Library to Another" http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/topic/copying-files-from-one-document-library-to-another#post-4102 Tue, 10 Feb 2009 22:03:38 +0000 AutoSponge 4102@http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/
If you have MOSS and the right access, Site Content and Structure is the best way (IMHO).
ntwillis on "Copying Files from One Document Library to Another" http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/topic/copying-files-from-one-document-library-to-another#post-4093 Tue, 10 Feb 2009 20:17:08 +0000 ntwillis 4093@http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/
Mark and Laura:

We want to copy files from one document library to another. When we used the Explorer View all the files didn't copy over. I'm not sure if there is a maximum number that can be copied at one timne.

I was told that the Explorer View was not the best method for copying files from one document library to another. I can copy a few files at a time and verify that they copied over, but that can be time consuming.

I don't have access to any special tools as an end user and was wondering if there was a simple way to copy files and folders to another library.

Thanks for the information about the mandatory colums.

Nadine
EndUserSharePoint on "Copying Files from One Document Library to Another" http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/topic/copying-files-from-one-document-library-to-another#post-4091 Tue, 10 Feb 2009 20:00:46 +0000 EndUserSharePoint 4091@http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/
Laura,

I would not assume there is access to the server. Most people asking question here are at the site collection admin level, max. Your solution will be ok for those who have access to the server, but most won't.

Nadine, the problem with moving files between libraries is that the metadata is not transferred to the new library. In addition, if there are mandatory columns in the new library, multiple file movement will leave all of the files in "Checked Out" mode and no one will be able to see them.

Better take a step back and give us some details on EXACTLY what you are trying to do.

Mark
laura67 on "Copying Files from One Document Library to Another" http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/topic/copying-files-from-one-document-library-to-another#post-4089 Tue, 10 Feb 2009 17:59:24 +0000 laura67 4089@http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/
No, don't use it as a URL.
