It's just a very bad practice to put a database inside a database (sharepoint is in sql). If you must, must put it in there, zip it up first. That way, users have to download and extract before opening it on their hard drive.
Instead of using an Access DB, put the stuff in sharepoint instead. For each table that exists in the database, create a list in sharepoint. Then, from Access you can connect to all of those lists as if they're tables. Then, you can still do all of your querying and reports from a DB (out on a network share somewhere), but users can input the table data from sharepoint.
Just a thought.

Laura Rogers
http://spinsiders.com/laurar
jlschu1 on "Default View" http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/topic/default-view#post-5691 Fri, 03 Apr 2009 17:12:41 +0000 jlschu1 5691@http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/
As a contributor of a list can you select a specific view as your default opposed to the default assigned by the owner?
Lynley on "Opening a spreadsheet in Excel from a CEWP" http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/topic/opening-a-spreadsheet-in-excel-from-a-cewp#post-5690 Fri, 03 Apr 2009 17:06:58 +0000 Lynley 5690@http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/
Yes, Eric, that's what we're trying to do.
jlschu1 on "ALerts and content approval" http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/topic/alerts-and-content-approval#post-5689 Fri, 03 Apr 2009 16:58:52 +0000 jlschu1 5689@http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/
Since there is not connection to Content Approval and Alert Me - is it possible to hide or disable the "Alert Me" option from the the list?
Pelica on "Global Navigation bar" http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/topic/global-navigation-bar-1#post-5688 Fri, 03 Apr 2009 16:54:29 +0000 Pelica 5688@http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/
All of our bars use the same at the Top Site. One should come out in a day or two that uses AOP. However, the brute force method is to rewrite the SharePoint function that renders the new HTML from an expanded group like this:

'function ExpGroupRenderData(htmlToRender, groupName, isLoaded) {
$("#tbod"+groupName+"_").attr("isloaded",isLoaded)
.html(htmlToRender)
.show("fast",___callback___);'

where callback is a call to your custom function.

If you look at some of my code examples, I use that to call something like initPreview(group) so I can pass the groupName from ExpGroupRenderData into my function.

'function initPreview(group){
if (!group){group = "#MSO_ContentTable";}
$(group+" a[href*='DispForm.aspx']").bindPreview();
...
'

When I run the init function, I don't put a group, and it defaults to the main content area. When the new version of the SP function runs it:

'.show("fast",initPreview("#tbod"+groupName+"_"));'

I pass the group so I can select the group by ID.

I hope that helps. Like I said, if you're still stuck, my new AOP article should make it as simple as this can get.
AutoSponge on "Calling a centrally located jQuery master from all pages" http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/topic/calling-a-centrally-located-jquery-master-from-all-pages#post-5680 Fri, 03 Apr 2009 15:57:19 +0000 AutoSponge 5680@http://www.endusersharepoint.com/STP/
27Palms,

There's that method and there's also Christophe's method. The idea is to not have to push the data around, but rather just link to it. The part I'm not sure about is how to handle the lifecycle of the rows of supplemental items. I'd like to have it so that if a row of project info has no corresponding item of supplemental info, the user can create that item (link from the data view?) and the item will be linked to that external row. And if a row of project info is deleted, it doesn't show anything in the data view (even if the row of supplemental info still exists). I'm imagine that between workflow and web services, it can be done (not that I know how). But if it starts to have too many moving parts, maybe a data synchronization would be best. Does anyone have any ideas for doing the lifecycle in a clean way? Another group produces marketing presentations in PPT and links in video files (usually two in a ppt doc).

The PPT docs are ultimately used off-site so they need to be downloaded, along with the videos, to the sales person's laptop. Before SP, each PPT file and its related videos were stored in their own folder. The salesperson would simply copy that folder to their desktop and they were good to go. Trying to avoid the folder structure in SharePoint, I can not find a way to make it obvious what video files need to be downloaded with each PPT file. To make it a little more complicated, a few of the video files are shared across most of the PPT's, so ideally we would only have one copy of them rather than having duplicates for each PPT.

Any ideas on how to structure the library, meta data, or workflow to make it obvious which video files need to be downloaded along with a PPT file? Or do I just give in a use libraries and duplicate copies of the videos?

thanks in advance,
Paul
