Are alerts still active after item has been deleted?

If a document or list item or library (pick any of them) has alerts on them from a workflow, will the alerts still be working if the doc/list/lib is deleted (but still in a recycle bin) for those who did NOT complete the workflow task?

And confirm that there is no way, even with site collection admin capabilities to find out what alerts a user has set? Not with OOB.

  2. First question: I don't know off the top of my head.

    Second question: Yes, you can.
    1. Go to Site Settings
    2. Under the Site Administration section, click "User Alerts"
    3. Pick a user from the drop-down box and click <Update>
    4. There's your list of that user's alerts, and you can even delete them.

  3. It's that damn unobtrusive dropdown box that will get you everytime. I remember suffering through managing alerts until I realized that underneath that dropdown were all the users I was looking for.

Thanks. Since I don't see any of the 34 people who were complaining listed, I am assuming the delete (it's not even in the Site Collection recycle bin) took care of the alerts coming from the workflow.

However, I did notice that when I am at the top of the site collection, there are no alerts for anyone. But if I go to the sub-site where it was happening, I find one person with alerts set.

From that, here I go assuming again ... but it appears you have to go to the "offending" site before the above will display the alerts. Or do you actually have to bring up the list (library or document) for it to work? I get the same results there as I did at the home page of the sub-site.

  5. The workflow alerts won't show here. These are only list alerts that the users themselves (or an admin) have set up on a list or list items.

  6. if there's a task list involved in your workflow, you might want to check that the task list itself isn't set to send email notifications. It's in the task list's advanced settings.

That makes sense Laura. But in this case the task was deleted by the owner but was still in the Site Collection Recycle bin. Apparently it was shooting off 34 alerts from recycle.

We've deleted it out that bin as well in hopes to "kill" it.
