I selected the "Content Type" column from the View list so it displays in my library. I have 4 content types in my library that display on the "New" menu. Two of them are MS Word .dot templates, one is a .xls template and the 3rd one is just a content type called "Other Project Document" and it is not tied to a template so the user can upload any document type to this library. The "New Folder" option has been removed from that list.

Now when I am saving a document the "Content Type" field displays with the 4 content types above to allow me to select the correct content type for the document. There is one problem though. A FIFTH content type appears on that drop down list of type "Folder"????? I have no idea why it displays this but if I select it I get a script error. I did find that there is a content type of "Folder" defined for my site collection top level as "Folder(Sealed)". So my first question is why is it displaying this in the Content Type's drop down menu? Second, how do I get rid of it so my users don't select it and get an error? Lastly, how is that column drop down populated?

  2. In the list of list columns in list settings, do any of the columns say "Folder" is using them?

Not sure if this is what you are asking. I go into the Library's (List) column settings and "Folder" does not even appear in that list. I had selected the option not to even display the folder choice on the New button prior to creating the library template. There are other columns in that list that indicate they are being used by my other custom content types.

  4. The only thing I can think of is that Folder is/was a valid content type in the list. There may have been a Folder in the list at some point. But this is certainly odd behavior--I'll see if I can find anything else on the subject.

I have not been able to figure it out either! I've gone back into the library and checked settings and don't see anything unusual. This library is a template that is available on our IS Site Collection. I know that other groups may have altered it once they had it on their site but it does not look like anyone has overwritten my initial site template out there.

  6. There may be a way to set the list settings to avoid folders through stsadm. I'm no commandline guru but I've seen where that approach has worked in the past.

There is only one place where I found some reference to "Folder" as a content type. It is under the custom view I created for the library. In the folder section of the Edit View menu it allows you to select option to show items inside folder or without folders. I had selected without folders.

A second option allows you to select where to show this view.

    Radio Button Choices are:
    In all folders
    In top-level folder
In folders of content type (then there is a drop down that shows "Folder")

The radio button in this last option is grayed out as well as the Folder selection in the drop down.

I had changed the option to show "Folder" as a selection in the "New" menu, so I thought that was why it was grayed out. As a test I then changed to option to show it on the New menu to see if that had any effect on folder appearing as a content type. Nothing changed. It was still grayed out as a selection.

I have no idea if this would cause the problem but it is the only place where I can find folder referenced as a "Content Type".
