  1. Here's something that I've been pondering for a while, and met no success in the Technet forums. In the past, I've tried setting up a content type for both .PSD and .SWF, so that rather than having to reopen continual file templates for design projects then having to save/upload time and again, I can load one up from the New menu.

Didn't work, on the basis that SharePoint didn't recognised a SharePoint Services compatible application when the call was made to Flash / Photoshop respectively.

Now, as best I can see it, the SharePoint association between file and application for Content Type purposes is dictated by ActiveX controllers, but I'm unable to find anything more than that.

So, my question is, how does one go about making Content Types with non-MS file types?

  2. Steven - I'll use Photoshop/.psd as an example

Open Photopshop, create a blank image and save it as SharePointTemplate.psd. When you setup the "Create a new PhotoShop Image" content type, attach the blank .psd file as your template. Attach that content type to your library, making it the default content type.

When anyone clicks the "New" button, if they have Photoshop on their local machine, it will open the blank template and save any work back to the library.

    Regards,
    Mark
