Create a Linked item in a list that displays related documents

    I have a user who who created a list of projects and then created a Document Library that has a custom column in it that is obtained from that list. The question I got was:

    "Can I have a link column of some sort on the Project list that takes me directly to the document library and filters by the custom column (e.g. the Project Name)" or is there a better approach?"

  2. So the document library has a lookup column to the project list so that when a file is uploaded, the user selects the appropriate project from the list?

    This sounds like data view web part country. When a user clicks a particular project, a list is populated with file names and links to the documents. Would make for a nice screencast.

    Exactly, I could see this to be very popular as our Engineers create numerous documents based on many different projects. This could be like a dashboard. I'll try this out.

  4. Yes, you could use web part connections to do this. Just put web parts of both lists on the page, and connect them using the common field. Remember that the common field does need to be displayed as a column on both lists for this to work.
