1. In your SSP, create a custom scope that is made up of only the URL to that one list.
2. Go to your default search page on your site, and click <site actions>, <create page>
3. You'll need to create a new "advanced search" page, and also a "search results" page. Name them according to the list content. For example, I have a sharepoint list of company policies, so I called my new pages "policyadvanced" and "policyresults"
4. On the new results page, go into edit mode on the page, and edit the Search Core Results web part.
5. In the web part properties' Miscellaneous section, in the Scope box, type the name of the custom scope that you created in step 1. save & publish.
6. Now, navigate to the regular (not the new) advanced.aspx page, which you can find in the site's Pages library. Go into Edit mode on that page
7. In the "tabs" section above the web part zones, click "Add New Tab", and put in the name of the new advanced results page. In my case, tab name: Policies, and Page is PolicyAdvanced.aspx.
8. In the properties for the new scope that you created in your SSP in step 1, put the full URL to the new results page in the "Target results page" field. That's the gist of it.

Hi:
I purchased the Simple Search Web Part from Bamboo Solutions more than a year ago and it's been fantastic. On my List, which is a custom sales pipeline, users must check to see if a prospect is already in the pipeline before they enter a new one; their search web part is very flexible. I believe it's about $200.http://store.bamboosolutions.com/pc-35-1-list-search-web-part.aspx
