Custom New/Edit/Disp Form

    Hi:
I just spent (too much!) time making a custom NewForm in SPD.

I guess I'm only 1/3 of the way through and right about now I'm wondering if I can "Save As" this NewForm, rename it "EditForm", and then insert the data sources as text. Then can I do the same for the DispForm?

When I tried this, the way you described, I was only able to go between New and Edit, that was if I did a find and replace in the form to identify if the form was new or edit. Disp is a different child and designed differently. After many hours of development I finally abandon this method because it consumed too much time and was not an efficient way to create my solution.

  3. Charlie,

I agree with jaxkookie, custom SPD forms are not usually very efficient or repeatable.

To answer you question, you may be able to copy-paste large sections of the form code from one to the other but you probably need to at least start with the OOB NewForm page.

I'd also suggest that you not override the OOB forms but instead point the list to use your form as the Edit form (right click the list name).

Gee whiz guys... that takes all the fun out of it, but I see your point(s).

    Thanks-
