   How can I give someone with READ only permissions the ability to see the version history of a doc?
   I have a requirement to give a Compliance audit team ability to view version history, but not edit a document or it's properties.

   Default Read permission level should be what you are looking for. If you need something more you should make your custom permission level. Here is how to do it: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263239.aspx
