    Evening

Earlier I asked a question with regards uing the DVWP for bringing bakc data relating to original information entered.

For example, I have a list that captures a serial number and description.

In another list using a lookup info already on this site, I have the serial number as the key. What I need to be able to do is bring back the description on the page as well.

I asked if the DVWP was the right way to go and got a resounding ys, but as I work through trying to do this, I cannot figure out how it is supposed to work.

Laura - would this be a good screencast to do ?

I've done this a few times, it took some getting use too.

Hopefully I don't leave out a step, but here goes

    1. ON the datasource library tab, select Linked Sources
    2. Select 'Create new Linked Source'
    3. The Data Source Properties window should appear, Click the Configure linked sources button.
    4. The link data sources window should now appear, add the 2 lists that you want to join.
    5. Once you finished, SPD should take you too the Data Source Details screen.
    6. Insert the records from the main list to your page.
    7. Now scroll down to your other list, and select the field you want to add
    8. Click on the 'Insert Selected Fields As' dropdown and select Formatted>Joined Item
    9. The Join Sub view window appears. Select which 2 fields are the 'keys' used for the joining.
    10. click OK.
    11. The field should appear on your page and should be joined by the 2 fields your selected.

    I think that's it, hopefully I didn't forget a step

I just did this today as a matter of fact. It's a pretty awesome solution.
