We have several fillable PDF forms that are stored in SharePoint for various projects. Most of these forms are completed by a project manager, then approved (e-signed) by a senior manager.

Our problem is that the PM can complete and load the form into SharePoint, but when it comes to the approval stage the senior manager is required to save the file locally, add his e-signature, then overwrite the previous form, which means the versioning history metadata is wiped out. (The company wants to keep previous versions in case changes to the content are made prior to approval.)

Has anyone found a way to edit PDF forms in SharePoint while maintaining the metadata? Any and all help is appreciated.

  2. I suppose you could use PDF attachments instead of documents.

  3. My colleague, Natalya Voskresenskaya, wrestled with PDFs in sharepoint and blogged about it here: http://spforsquirrels.blogspot.com/2008/05/native-support-for-pdf-and-odf-by.html

    And also here: http://spforsquirrels.blogspot.com/2008/06/pdf-saga-continues.html

And I think at least one more place. She may provide enough information for you to come up with a good approach.

Thank you both for the ideas. I'll page through Natalya's blog first, then see how management feels about the attachment idea.
