Gantt Chart and Calculated Columns

    Hello,

I am trying to create a list that tracks time periods that employees are working on specific projects. I set it up so that the list has a lookup to an employee list, lookup to a project list, start date and end date. I can get the Gantt view to work properly, but I can't use the lookup fields in the Gantt chart, which makes it very difficult to interpret the Gantt chart.

We don't support Deisnger yet, so I can't use that. Right now, I created a new column in which I manually re-enter the employee name and project name, which allows me to use it in the Gantt chart. I don't want to have to do this everytime, I want it to be an automated process.

Is there any way I can do this without Designer?

    Thanks

The title of your post contains the answer; if lookup fields don't work (as is often the case) then use a calculated column to convert your lookup to a text value. I won't repeat all of Dessie's work on his calculated column series here but that series on EUSP should give you all you need.

DISCLAIMER: I haven't tried using a calculated column in a Gantt view so if you've already tried that then my answer may not be relevant. Happy hunting!

Oops... looking stupid is the price I pay for reading forums after dinner. Of course you can't use a lookup column as the source for a calculated column. In the absence of SPD I don't know what you could do to enhance this.
