How does one go about setting up an Archiving "list" on a SharePoint OOB blog? Where all the Nov 2008 entries display? Dec 2008? Jan 2009, etc.? Can this be done with OOB?

Create a calculated column Month Published (single line of text). Use the following formula: =TEXT(Created,"mmm yy").
You might get into some problems with ordering it correctly, let me know...

Okay -- I added the calculated column to the Posts list. But how do you get the "web part" to show up on the home page with
Jan 2009 (4)
Dec 2008 (7)
Nov 2008 (9) ... etc.
I've tried to research it but do you know how hard it is to find something about a blog archive? And none of my SharePoint books(8 of 'em) have given me a glimmer of what to do next. HELP! [Can you tell I'm a SP newbie???]Posted 7 months ago # -
I did this with a CQWP.

Not an understatement "not the easiest thing to do". Not sure if I will be permitted to work with the XML ... I was hoping it was easier than this since it is common across SharePoint blogs I've seen on-line. Sigh!

You may or may not need the XML part (editing the ItemStyle page). But you will need to expose the hidden Post content type. I honestly can't remember what that looked like with the default styles.

Toni has provided me with an out of the box solution that I will be posting on the main site later this week. It will include a .webpart link, so you can paste-and-play. -- Mark
