Incoming email to list in WSS

    I am trying to automatically add content to a custom list from a 3rd party email alert. I understand that WSS does not allow incoming email into a custom list. So, I was just wondering if anyone has ever found a work-around to this OOTB limitation?

  2. The only content it would have, would be the sender's email, and the email subject, even if it could be done. If you need the actual content of the email as metadata, then you might want to look into using a web service, and a sharepoint data view web part. In the meantime, why not just use a document library, so that you can receive the emails as "msg" files?

    Laura,

    When I tried the same I could not get incoming emails to save as a .msg. Another format was used that was less useful. (can't remember type).

    Is there a trick or setting for receiving the .msg w/ the full content?

  5. In the "Incoming Email" settings in the doc library, you have to set "Save original email" to YES.

    Thanks Laura.

    I have that switch enabled. For some reason my server receives those and places in library as a .eml file. Quite a bit less useful than the .msg file. I'd hoped you might have revealed the magic bullet to fix. I'll revisit this at a later time.

  7. You're right. I was thinking they were msg files. They're eml files, but again, the only metadata you're really going to get is:
    sender
    date
    email subject
    nothing really from the body of the email.

    In our document libraries, we don't have the "Incoming Email" setting visible at all.
