Today a colleague made a standard sharepoint survey and copied the link of the NewForm.aspx of the survey into an email. Clicking on this link we could directly fill in the survey and click on finish......he thought.

This is not the case, I have seen this before. SharePoint will give you (the standard) Access Denied screen, although you have the necessary contribute permissions. When I advised to turn off the option "Allow only one answer" you can use the link of the NewForm.aspx.

Mind you, although you get an Access Denied screen, SharePoint WILL have saved your response.

Although I have seen this before I could not tell my colleague why this behavior occurs. Do you have an answer?

(Of course I just click the finish button ones)

  2. The only thing I can think of is if he used branching logic or customized the form at all to include a querystring parameter for ID. Usually, there's a default value on the page of ID=1 if the parameter is not present.

In your case, ID=1 is probably not their survey and they get a denied screen. Was branching logic used at all?
