  1. Is there a way to have the Action Items or Task List send out a followup email on the day the task is due...or even the day before it is due?

Sending the initial email works fine... and I know that workflows generate an overdue notice... but I have yet to see any task or action items list do this.

So far I've only found a few "for sale" plugins that do this sort of thing... so I'm guessing it's not possible just within Sharepoint.. but thought I'd ask.

  2. Matt,

3rd-party tools often work better for "auto-pester" functionality because long wait timers and scheduled batch jobs take up a lot of resources and are not part of OOB functionality.

If you don't want to go 3rd-party, encourage people to integrate with Outlook so they can track their Tasks there and set appropriate (personal) reminders.

The other option is custom development with Visual Studio--Paul Galvin may correct me but I don't think SPD alone is the right tool.

  3. Matt,

I agree with AutoSponge. We use a 3rd party software called SharePoint Reminder by Pentalogic. We have used it for several years and are very pleased with it. It gives a lot of customization on when and how often you want a reminder to be sent out. Also, it allows you, through HTML, to create very nice email reminders too. Here is a link:

    Hope this helps,

    Peter
