Good morning - I deployed a survey and told respondents that it would be anonymous - I turned off the show name feature and allowed them to view only their response. I need to know the names of the first 50 respondents. Instead of turning show names on, is there another way to get the names? Can respondents access the responses to see only their's - the same as they would have after taking the survey? The survey has been inactivated. Our sharepoint website does not require a log in so how would the respondent number associate with the person viewing?

    I appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

  2. If the survey allowed anonymous users to submit new records, you probably have several responses by "Guest" or whatever account is used for anon access. If users had to sign in, then you can get their info by turning off anonymous, dumping the responses to Excel, and turning it back on.

That's a nasty trick and it's not really anonymous, more like confidential. But it's also what allows users to see "only their own" responses even when 'anonymous' is turned on.

Thanks for the info but not quite what I was looking for - the user responded the the survey and were identified as respondent 1, 2, 3, etc. How can a respondent look at the responses to identify which respondent number was their survey?

  4. If you allowed them all to complete the survey under the same account it's impossible. If they logged in, you can have them "only view their own" to check the response and/or you can turn off anonymous temporarily to get the info you need.

I am not sure what you mean by account -

  6. Everyone viewing a page in SharePoint is using an account. If they are viewing anonymously, they're using a shared account defined by IIS as the guest account. Either way, when an item is created, SharePoint records the account used as Author. So, if you allowed everyone to create items in the survey without logging in, all responses probably have the same Author.

I created the survey - when I turn on show names, their name appears. I know this is confusing - because the survey was "confidential", they want respondents to look at their survey response, tell us what respondent number they were so we know who the first 50 responses came from. This is to make it look like (I'm guessing) that the survey was kept confidential in relying on the employee to tell their respondent number, not for us to tell them. I hope this makes sense.

  8. Trust me, even though it says anonymous, if you set it to "only view their own" they will see their own response.

  9. If anonymous access is activated, wouldn't all people using that access be able to view other results for the anonymous account?

  10. No login = Guest account = no way to discern who completed which survey
Anonymous = *** for username = SQL still knows who logged in and completed the survey, it's just not saying

Thankk so much for your help - I get your last reply - now that the survey is over, is there a way for those who responded to go back to the website and see only their answers? I know if I turn on show names it will tell me that - but how can I get the respondents to identify which respondent number they were without me telling them by turn on show names?

  12. Home > Survey > Settings > Advanced Settings
Read access: Specify which items users can read
    [X]Only their own

Our company posted a survey SharePoint. They said our responses would be strickly confidential/anonymous - i.e. no one (managers) could lookup names of individuals and link their names to their answer. How reliable/possible is this?

  14. You have to go into the actual Sharepoint database to find it, and that is a frowned upon practice by Microsoft. If you look at the results of the survey or export the results, you cannot tell who completed it.
