Start a Workflow - based upon a condition, bot a change to the data

    Morning

In the workflow section within SPD, you have an option of checking of three different states to start the workflow, manual, new and after a change.

I have a tracking program to identify who is out of the country and their projected return date. As I want to be notified when the person comes back so that I can take them off the list, I could do this in two way - mark them in a calendar to remind me to check, or set up a workflow and have an email reminder sent to me (which is what I prefer).

For example, if a person is supposed to come back today, I have it check against today and a returned checkbox. So far, I have not seen an email.

I have not checked off any of the three boxes available to me.

    What am I doing wrong?

  2. Not enabling one of the 3 checkboxes. You have a workflow created that can't fire because it's not allowed.

What you would need to do is have it trigger on new item creation and have it send you an email based on the projected return date. Create a new SPD variable that will calculate the projected return date minus a day (or whatever time frame you are looking for) and have it send you an email based on that variable.

  3. I would create a workflow that has a delay activity till Return date. After that workflow should assign a task to you (or your group) to remove the entry.

Or you could use Erics' suggestion and calculate another date with formula.

  4. Right, calculate a notification time, and pause until that date and send the email. I didn't specificaly state that but was what I was getting at.

    Morning Eric and Toni

    Thanks for your replies.

I now have the box checked for a new creation with a delay - thanks for that.

The return dates are all different but I base it off the Date Back field.

I have tried a delay as well as set a variable, but for some reason, I still cannot get it working.

I have not use variables before, so it is probably something I am not doing.

Any other ideas would be appreciated.
