Task Assignments Sent to Incorrect People

I have seen on a couple of different task lists that the email sent out for notification of a task assignment gets sent to people who were never assigned to a task.

The email sent out contains a list of people crossed out (line through their name). It seems like the task is edited and previous old recipients are crossed out and the correct recipients added but the task may have just been newly created and all the people (those crossed out and those added) receive the email - even though those crossed may not be members/visitors/owners (i.e. zero permissions) on the site.

Any ideas why this would be occurring?

  2. Is it only during a re-assignment of a task? It would seem the person that it was taken from and given to would be notified as well as anyone else who is subscribed to alerts on that list.

No. Newly created task and no reassignments - email sent out to people who were never assigned.

You are correct in that from and to assignees are notified normally but what I am seeing is that the task is created and assigned but then an email is sent out with people crossed-out who were never assigned. Both these people and the actual assignees get the email.

    I am stumped. :(

We've seen this as well, it is a bug in Sharepoint. I'll bet you have your task list set to allow multiple people to be assigned to a task. That is what breaks it!

Yes, multiple assignees is set on the Assigned To columns.

It is causing a lot of confusion here and renders task assignment a pile of BS in our enviroment.

Couple this with multiple assignees also breaking our content query webpart and the whole assigning of tasks is rendered useless.

When are Microsoft going to fix these issues?

I have a bug logged with Microsoft Support on this since 3 weeks ago. They tell me I need to apply the Cumulative Updates for October to all our Farm Servers and this bug should be fixed then.
