Uploading a document to a library

    What is the purpose of the title field when uploading a document to a document library? I am prompted with the Name field which is required and includes the document name and then a title field that is empty and is not required. thanks

    Jen,

    The name field is the file name... ReportQ1.xsl.
    The title describes the file... Buget Report for Q1.

    Ok, so it is a descripton field. that makes sense.thanks! I am now interested on why certain libraries prompt me to fill in both options, when other libraries just upload document.
