Has anyone found a way to use a lookup column or a site column in a calculated field?

I want to concatenate Manufacturers and Technology in a new list, and I have these lists defined in two separate site columns. When I pull them in as lookups to a new list, they are not available for the calculated field.

  2. You'll probably need to concatenate those fields by a linked data source in a Data View Web Part (SPD) or use some script to concatenate them into a new field.

What is it you're trying to accomplish exactly?

I have a manufacturers site column, and a tech site column. I use both throughout my site, and want to concatenate the two together for use in a third site column, essentially so people don't have to select from two columns in a specific instance. (So I can build one column with "Manufacturer - Technology" in it.)

  4. What you describe can't be done OOB. The only thing I can suggest is an extension of the pre-populate javascript. People would click a link (either going to a form page or on it) that populates the two fields with one click.
