Workflow authorisation errors with groups

    We have a problem when a workflow task (e.g. an Approval task) is assigned to a SharePoint group (not an AD group).
    If the task is assigned to an individual user it works fine. If the same task is assigned to a SharePoint group, and the same user is a member of that group, the workflow errors with "Unauthorised attempt to update a workflow task".
    If the workflow option "Assign task to" is set to "One participant at a time (serial)" then it works but we need this option set to "All participants simultaneously (parallel)". Anyone experiecnced this? SP seems to be having difficulty resolving the group when attempting to modify the workflow task but we cannot work out why?
