I come across requests that help me really understand the power that SharePoint provides without having to “write code”.

Chris Quick has volunteered to document every step of his SharePoint 2010 beta installation. I’ve setup a live blogging panel so that you can follow along as he is going through the process. You will be able to ask Chris questions along the way. When he has time, he’ll respond in-line.

I have decided to include step by step instructions on building a solution that queries an XML web service for data and displays that information in SharePoint 2007.

I found the article from Paul Grenier concerning jQuery and managing external links so compelling that I packed up a web part for use on sites.

Recently, my employer decided it needed to solve a problem managing vendor documentation. This is actually a common scenario in my organization, so I decided that it would be worth taking a few minutes to put together a short case study on how the problem was solved for one team.

The Problem:

The new director is attempting to piece together the budget and spending schedule for the current budget cycle and he wants to make sure that all contracts are properly updated.

The team has been storing this information in a variety of places. The information you receive actually depends on who you ask and where you look.

During any given time period the team may process a wide variety of quotes for products and services. These are often lost or misplaced.

The question of the day comes from Stump the Panel:
Do you know why SharePoint search skips the attached file name? The search does find the document content but if searched on document name, it returns nothing. Is there a way to include name in search?
I faced this issue when I tried searching an attached document name [...]

Can you direct me to a solution? Anything you can do will be appreciated. We have hundreds of files that we [...]

It is now time [...]

The Question of the Day is from George:
When granting access to a site – is there a way to call up the GAL from AD and select multiple users?
Response from Chris Quick
I don’t know that SharePoint makes use of the GAL (Global Address List) when selecting users. It connects directly with Active Directory (or another [...]
