Word 2007, the Document Management Panel and SharePoint

In Word 2007, there is a potentially hidden tool that can help you quite a bit. Most people know about the Document Information Panel (DIP), but did you know there’s a Document Management Panel? Check out this two minute screencast to see how the Document Management Panel displays information about a SharePoint Word document.

Mark, will you be discussing how to customize the DIP? every time I try to create a custom DIP (in MOSS), i get a useless error message about an invalid schema and I’d like to know if others are having the same type of problem or what the trick is to get this potentially powerful feature to work.

  2. Laura and I talked about it a while back, but since it is SPD specific, we decided against. Now that SPD is free, we’re going to evaluate and and SPD specific workshops that will include the DIP.

HI, Your Video is great to give an introduction about the document management. I’m trying to find is there a way to hide this panel for certain users or hide them completely?

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you
    Vijay
