Review of SharePoint Saturday Philly

Mark Miller - Founder and EditorThis Saturday’s SharePoint Saturday Philly was an outstanding success. If you haven’t taken advantage of a SharePoint Saturday event near you, you’re really missing out.

I presented three sessions: “Killer SharePoint Calendars” twice and finished the day with “Tabbed Interfaces in SharePoint – No Code Required“. Christophe Humbert from Path to SharePoint has created techniques for color coding through use of the calculated column, as well as a unique way to display multiple web parts in a single tabbed interface without recourse to accessing the server. For those who came, I hope you take two minutes and give a review of my session.

Speaking of Christophe, he’s leading a live online workshop, jQuery Animations in SharePoint. This is a virtual event that anyone can attend. If you’re interested in how to use jQuery with SharePoint, it is a great starting place.

I took a few short videos so you could get a feel for what it’s like to attend one of the SharePoint Saturday events. Philly was very successful with over 350 people registerd. There were also a few other SharePoint events going on at the same time, such as SharePoint Roadshow in Chicago, SharePoint Saturday in Redmond and SharePoint Saturday in Raleigh. If you couldn’t attend any of these, I have archived an EUSP Live Twitter Tracker for November 7, 2009 so you can at least view the tweets coming out of the events.

There are multiple SharePoint Saturday’s scheduled for this weekend. Most close down registration in advance because of overwhelming response, so don’t wait to register.

Speaking of registering, Toni Frankola, Isaac Stith, Marianne van Wanrooij and I are sponsoring Live Online, SharePoint Saturday Europe on January 23rd. We’re going to present a virtual SharePoint Saturday with speakers and presenters from around the world donating their time. We will be running the event on European time, so speakers in Europe will have it easy compared to those in the United States who will have to get up at 3:00am to give their presentations.

Please register for the announcement list for Live Online SharePoint Saturday Europe so we can start to get a feel for how many people are interested. We’re looking forward to having a good time and seeing you there.

Mark

Sharepoint Saturday was a very worthwhile event! I am glad I attended and look forward to the next, in addition other Sharepoint ventures coming from this group. I was a little nervous about an event thant would consume an entire Saturday, but it turned out to be a very good use of the time and I am looking forward to the next!
