The SharePoint50 Project: Top System Integrators and Consultants
Today Global 360, KnowledgeLake and EndUserSharePoint.com release the names of the first set of influencers in The SharePoint50 Project. Here’s the way it works.
Global 360 and KnowledgeLake hired a third party research firm to find the main influencers when people are looking at purchasing SharePoint in the United States. You can read more about the process in a previous article.
We contacted each of the influencers, told them about The SharePoint50 Project, requested a bio, a headshot, their social media contacts and any speaking engagements or presentations they have scheduled. If they have books coming out or articles being published, we include those in the write up. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to follow and engage with the influencers as you are making decisions on how to best utilize SharePoint in your company.
The main content for the project is available on the Global 360 site. Bookmark that location. Each week for the next five weeks we will announce another segment of The SharePoint50 Project.
Later today, a new tab will be added to the SharePoint Community Calendar where you can follow the activities of the SharePoint50 and meet them in person when they come to your area.
Then there’s the interviews. Rob Foster from SharePoint Pod Show is setting up a series of interviews to talk with the SharePoint50. These will be rolled out periodically, based upon the schedules of the influencers.
That should get you started. Take a look at the SharePoint50 System Integrators and Consultants. Setup your tracking lists on your RSS reader and your twitter search. Follow them on LinkedIn and Facebook.
I anticipate some VERY lively discussion in the comments below. That’s part of the process. Your input will not only be helpful, but critical, in helping drive discussion around who deserves recognition for what they do in the SharePoint Community.

Interesting start. Might be helpful if more content is added and hopefully it can keep somewhat un-biased towards the participants.
Of course it’s missing the most important person in the SharePoint industry ;)
Interesting selection and I agree with most. I wonder at someone like Andrew McAfee being listed within System Integrators and Consultants and not as an Analyst, Journalist or some other category.
Good point, Richard. We’ll take a look at it. — Mark
Richard, you are right. The title of this grouping and others may not represent the complete set of members. We tried our best to keep the names of the grouping short and focused, but hope that the naming does not detract from the recognition of its members.
The SharePoint50 Project included research among: channel players, thought leaders, Industry bodies, SI’s, traditional media, industry analysts, word of mouth, Existing users, peer groups, user groups, and speakers & events. Not all of these groups will show up in the top 50, but you will see a wide representation of individuals as the list continues to be revealed over the coming weeks.
No worries. I think I understood that from the previous descriptions but thought it was worth pointing out.
This is great by the way guys. Really.
The more acknowledgment and awareness we can create in our own communities (through various initiatives, programs, and organizers) the better we will be able to communicate with one another and more effectively tackle future SharePoint challenges. :)
Looking forward to seeing follow ups and any other similar initiatives around the community.
Mark, looking forward to seeing the other categories come together. Many of these names I am familiar with, but I had a thought — what about also creating a list of up-and-coming influencers, in addition to these lists? There are quite a few folks that are running below the radar, some only regionally, but who are clearly on the track toward ‘Top 50 Influencer’ (like Mr. Harbridge!) who should definitely be highlighted. Maybe have the community provide write-in candidates? Just thinking out loud….
Christian – I think that’s a GREAT idea and Richard is a nice example to start with. I see him picking up the governance piece from where Joel left off. Who else should be considered. We can keep track and setup a twitter list for people to follow, just to get started. — Mark
I think I need to see who is on your list, and then send you my top 10 up-and-comers. Having said that, Dux Raymond Sy is at the top of the list, if not already appearing on your Influencers list. Paul Swider and Virgil Carroll also come to mind as being movers and shakers. And then, of course, there is you, sir! But then again, maybe I just have shirt-envy.
Well of course I’m beyond thrilled to be on this list. If nothing else this spurs me on in my community activism in SharePoint which has no doubt been a major factor in having the priviledge of being listed. I also see that there are only 3 women listed in this segment so I will use whatever “influence” I have to keep supporting groups like Women in SharePoint and encourage other talented women to make their mark in the SharePoint world. There’s lots of room for us ladies! Step up!
I applaud you for this first attempt at making al list like this and very much agree with the comments above about up-in-comers & regional recognition. List or no list there are lots of subject matter experts that might not appear that are still doing amazing work out there.
Keep up the great work and thank you!
It’s nice to see Ted Pattison and Andrew Connel in this list. Being a developer, I am avid fan of both of these guys. I must say, I haven’t read better technical book than “Inside WSS 3.0″ written by Ted and looking forward to their 2010 version..
Good work Mark, keep it up.
