A New Way to Build Community in SharePoint
If you’ve been following me for any time now, you know that I’m all about community. I look for different ways I can participate, try to use the site for a launch pad of new ideas for SharePoint sharing, and introduce people to the ideas that are springing up around the community. This is one of those times…
Geoff Varosky and the team who put on SharePoint Saturday Boston have come up with a plan to record the sessions that were delivered on September 25, 2010. Did you catch that? Today is October 15th, 2010. Unless we can go back to the future, there has to be another way, and that’s what Geoff has come up with.
Starting on October 25th, he is going to do live broadcasts, repeating the sessions that were delivered in Boston. The people who presented in Boston will be the hosts, so you’ll get the real thing, no substitutes. These will be live broadcasts where you can ask questions and participate, just as if you were there. The sessions are recorded and made available, free to the public.
The reason I’m excited about this is that it’s a new way to expose all the GREAT content that’s coming out on SharePoint Saturday’s that is usually limited to a specific location. The regional speakers are delivering fantastic case studies with tips and tricks they have discovered on their own, but will never be heard again outside of their session.
If the format works out, I would like to document the process of getting this done for other SharePoint Saturdays and help build a repository of recordings from around the world!
There is enough room for 1000 people to attend each live session. The recording will be made available as soon as possible after the session. Please check the sessions below and see what interests you. You’ll get a reminder notice a couple days before each session. As a hint: If you give a bogus email address, you get no reminder notice. Makes sense, right? This isn’t for marketing, it’s for communicating updates to you.
So have at it. We look forward to an exciting experiment here and to your feedback below.
Geoff, great idea.
Mark

Great Idea , the value of SharePoint Saturday is increasing rapidly. Recording the videos and converting this event to online event beside it’s basic offline capabilities is just awesome , the community value is increasing here as well.
In SharePoint Saturday Palestine we tried to record all the videos , but for some technical issues , we recorded only three sessions out of eight sessions. Beside this SharePoint Saturday Palestine was broadcast live , and we had about 60 people watching it online beside Gaza broadcasting ( as Israeli barriers prevented them from attending it physically) . The feedback from the people that watched online was great, they had the knowledge and information needed.
I have been reading this site for long time and am very happy to see this community awareness , and the best practices for improving the SharePoint communities around the world.
Thanks,
Saed
HS! That’s great. Looking forward to going back and NOT missing this SPS. ;)
